The Plate Restaurant has announced they will open on Wednesday, 16 March 2022 and are now taking bookings.

Led by a team of hospitality veterans – some who left Toowoomba and are now returning – the venue promises a different dining experience. Expect some sophisticated takes on Australian classics with a grown-up bar offering and a style of service that suits everything from date night to catching up with the family.

The kitchen is led by head chef Max Stephenson, previously of Hobart’s MONA and Slate in the Clare Valley where he earned a chef’s hat. His launch menu includes a range of small sharing plates such as kingfish sashimi, dusted tofu, and burrata wth confit tomato. Larger dishes include a smoked brisket, market fish, roasted mushroom pappardelle and a quarter Portuguese chicken. And, of course, dry aged Mort & Co black angus steaks, as well as grass fed and grain fed options.

The bar – with its chic cocktails and interesting wine list – will serve snacks such as cultured marrow butter with ciabatta, pork scratchings, yabby rolls and fresh oysters. The perfect place to kick off a Friday night or stop by on the way home from work.

There’s also a kids’ menu, lunch specials, and a wide variety of dietary requirements catered for. The Plate will be open Wednesday to Saturday from 11.30am – 2.30pm for lunch, and then from 5.30pm – 8.30pm for dinner. The venue will remain open in between, serving a reduced menu of snacks alongside drinks. On Sunday, the restaurant is open for all-day dining from 11.30am – 7.00pm.

Bone Idol, the on-site brewery, will produce beers ready for release in May.

The Plate Restaurant is part of The Paddock Butchery's current site at 224 Ruthven Street, in the old DeLacey’s Hotel. As well as the butchery and grocery shop, the site is also home to The Shed Coffee Drive Thru.
