If (like us) you’ve ever wanted to see a small town turn into full-blown melon mayhem, this one is probably for you.
The Chinchilla Melon Festival – aka Australia’s juiciest, most ridiculous festival – returns this weekend, bringing with it a whole lot of ‘slippery, seed-spitting, and seriously fun’ chaos to the Western Downs.
Held every two years, this legendary event transforms the self-proclaimed Melon Capital of Australia into a playground of pink pulp. We’re talking melon skiing, melon bungee, melon ironman & chariot races, and (of course) an all-in melon-chucking fight (p.s. if you’ve ever had be in a food fight on your bucket list, here’s your chance). It’s half sports carnival, half fruit massacre, and 100% the best way to embrace the mess and spend a weekend.

Not just about extreme melon sports, the festival lineup also includes a street parade, live music, markets, and fireworks. Need to refuel after all that action? You’ll find melon everything – from slushies to sorbet, even melon-infused cocktails if you’re feeling fancy.
It all kicks off Thursday, February 15, with the main event action happening across Friday and Saturday, before wrapping up Sunday with a more chilled-out community vibe. So, pack your sunnies, wear something you don’t mind getting drenched in watermelon juice, and get ready to dive headfirst into the fun. You can find out more event info here.
