Experience the Wild with this Tiny Escape

We checked out Tiny Kya, the latest retreat by Into the Wild Escapes, just in time for camping season, New Year’s and that romantic Valentine’s getaway.

Whether you're looking to reconnect with nature or stargaze around the campfire, enjoy a romantic getaway or upgrade your next camping experience, Tiny Kya is your gateway to simplicity and adventure.

A scenic 20-minute drive south of Toowoomba (though we'd forgive you for thinking you had somehow been transported to Victoria's Grampians), Tiny Kya is a pocket-sized haven that whispers of adventure. The private retreat, veiled in secluded eucalyptus forest (you'll appreciate the seclusion when you enjoy that bathtub), delivers on its promise of escape into nature's calm and quiet.

Waking up to the gentle rustle of the wind through the leaves, watching the sunrise from the coziness of the cabin's queen bed, a nearby kangaroo nibbling away on the morning dew-soaked grass, meters from last nights' firepit. This was not just accommodation; it was a chance to reset amidst the tranquillity of nature and to detach from the outside world, albeit for a few days.

A little nervously (we needn't have been), we chose not to take our electronic devices with us, save a phone for emergencies, which we kept largely switched off. But, for those who may require a link to the outside world or for the little ones whose daily dose of Bluey is non-negotiable, we did discover a reliable 4G connection.

Instead, full of a 'this will be good for us' attitude and a determination to embrace our inner child, we embraced the list of suggested activities, exploring the private property and its walking tracks (the possibility of spotting a koala or two in the surrounding trees front of mind) the games provided, and made the most of the hammock, that outdoor bath, and the guilt-free chance to start on a book or two (Stanley Tucci's autobiography 'Taste', top of the list, inspired some genuine barbequing gusto later that evening).

For Into the Wild Escapes, who specialise in offering nature retreats in tiny houses throughout Australia, the concept is one of 'slowing down and re-wilding', a trend growing rapidly in popularity over the last few years, post Covid.

For guests, like us, this is an opportunity to reset, step into 'the wild' and reawaken that sense of wonder; to swap phone screens for natural scenery, calls and texts for interpersonal connection, luxury for simple joys, and work for rest (which it certainly did).

"Life can get hectic, and [it is important to] break free from routines and rediscover the joy of quality time spent with family and nature", Celeste Giannas, co-founder of Into The Wild Escapes, explains.

"The majority of our guests live in cities where the pace of life is fast – their careers are demanding, often involving high-pressure jobs … Some are also raising children, adding an additional layer of complexity and time constraints. They have little time to switch off and unwind," Celeste said.

"By immersing ourselves in nature, we can experience healing, peace, and rejuvenate our minds and bodies … "[it's] the perfect way to escape from the pressures of daily life", she said.

All in all, Tiny Kya, is far more than a stay, it is an expereince and opportunity for tranquillity where nature meets the charm of minimal living, inviting you to unwind, recharge, and be present.
