Think Pokémon Go meets geocaching, with a dash of scavenger-hunt fun—oh, and a prize pool of up to $10,000. Welcome to The Field Game, The Field Guide's newest initiative, transforming the city into an interactive playground for adventurers and treasure seekers.
Launching on January 11th, The Field Guide’s treasure hunt (or 'gnome hunt' after the event's gnome mascot), is here to celebrate curiosity, creativity, and community. Over the course of 21 days, participants will explore Toowoomba’s nooks and crannies, following clues in search of hidden coins and prizes. It’s gamification with heart, bringing locals and visitors together in a shared quest for discovery.
Oh, and the gnome? What better icon to pay homage to Toowoomba's garden heritage, with a cheeky and whimsical treasure-oriented twist.
Inspired by global sensations like Singapore’s Sqkii Hunt the Mouse and Paris’ Space Invaders, The Field Game adds its own unique flavour. With daily clues released on The Field Guide’s social media, players will decipher cryptic hints to uncover prizes scattered across the city.
The prize pool includes:
1 x $5,000 coin
8 x $250 coins
20 x $100 coins
Assorted cash and prizes.
That’s 29 chances to win while uncovering Toowoomba’s hidden gems and soaking up the city’s charm.
So how did the event come to be? Ultimately, we thought, 'why not!?
Sure, we may not be Paris, or Singapore, but there's no reason we can't bring things kinds of fun, interactive and community building events to Toowoomba. And so we are.
The Field Game is designed to be fun, family-friendly, and inclusive. No trespassing, no risky stunts, and no damaging or digging through private property required. Coins won’t be hidden underwater, in places of worship, or in dangerous locations, ensuring everyone can play safely.
Participation is free, and it’s as easy as keeping an eye on social media, solving clues, and being the first to locate the prize.
Beyond the thrill of the hunt, The Field Game is about supporting local businesses, showcasing Toowoomba’s unique character, and fostering a sense of community. “We wanted to create something fun and playful that celebrates the region while encouraging people to explore and discover its hidden gems”.
So grab your sense of adventure, rally your friends, and get ready for the chase. #TheFieldGame is here to spark curiosity, creativity, and a whole lot of fun. More details coming soon.
