Everything seems to be shut on Sundays. Do you have any suggestions as to where I could meet the girls on a Sunday afternoon? It’s the only day and time we all have available.

I feel you. As much as I respect businesses that close on Sundays (and that famous Toowoomba work/life blend), it can be tricky to find a place to hang out. You didn’t specify time or vibe, so I’ve rounded up a few different options, trying to ensure you had a choice of both drinking and non-drinking options. As you can see, there are plenty to choose from!

95 Mary Street

This boutique café is open until 4.30pm on Sundays. Enjoy Botero coffee or Jilly’s fine leaf tea with a slice of cake, nestled in among Ruby Lane Flower Co. bouquets and local artworks and antiques.

Santé Cocktail Bar

If you’re ready for a stronger drink, this moody lounge feels like something out of Golden Age cinema. Open from 4.00pm, invite the girls along for a cocktail to celebrate… friendship? The fact that it’s Sunday? Doesn’t matter!

Kingfisher Café

Situated within The Springs Garden World, this café is open until 4.30pm on Sundays. The cake cabinet is full of treats for afternoon tea, and you can choose from coffee, tea or a cool glass of wine. There’s often live acoustic music in the garden too, which makes an afternoon in the garden that much more beautiful.

George Banks Bar and Bistro

This glamorous yet relaxed bar is always alive on a Sunday afternoon. Able to serve both coffees and alcoholic drinks, everyone can enjoy this vibey, sophisticated rooftop bar together.

Bodega

Step through the doors of a seemingly ordinary convenience store and discover Bodega, an eccentric party house that comes alive from 5.00pm. Cool down with an ice-cold boozey slushie or taste from the Latin inspired cocktail and beer menu. And even better, there’s always live music happening, whether it’s soft acoustic tunes to accompany your gossip or 80s pop covers that’ll have you dragging your friends to the dance floor.

Vapiano

Serving food all day, every day til 8.30pm, you can enjoy a late lunch with handcrafted pizzas, big bowls of pasta, and fresh salads. And with plenty of gluten-free and vegetarian options (including zoodles), as well as a long drinks list with cocktails, wines and craft beers, you'll find yourself choosing Vapiano for a relaxed dining experience in the city, followed by some shopping.

Mouse Proof Brewery

Calling all Sunday session fans, this one’s for you. Built inside an old dairy factory in North Toowoomba, Mouse Proof serves up over 30 original brews made with love on-site, as well as local favourites like Pechey Distillery Gin. It’s a cosy, familiar-feeling brewhouse, that’s all about sustainability and a simple, kicked-back time. They’re open from 12.00-5.00pm on Sundays.

Proof BBQ & Booze

This BBQ restaurant and bar can be found in Duggan Street tucked beside Santé, and specialises in American-style feasts. Grab some succulent pulled pork or beef brisket cooked on-site in Dolly the smoker to pair with your craft beer, and enjoy live music all afternoon long.

Cafe 63

With their Southtown and Wilstonton venues open from 5.30am-9.00pm daily, Cafe 63 really covers any meal you desire: and with an impressively large menu and all-day breakfast options, as well as mains such as rib fillet and grilled salmon, you won’t need to worry about catering for everyone in the group. Choose Cafe 63 for afternoon coffee and cake or a late lunch over a cold drink.
