Georgie Ovett has trained Hilary Clinton and Elle Macpherson. She has worked in some of the world’s leading private gyms, including KX London, the gym to the Royal Family. She is the daughter of an Olympian and one of only three specialised stretch therapists in Australia. Basically, yeah. Georgie Ovett punches above her weight.

Now based in Toowoomba, Georgie is gaining a reputation for her Friday morning run clubs on the beautiful Glennie running track and her ‘back to basics’ approach to PT. We sat down with her after training to talk about business, farmers markets and local hidden gems.

First things first: why Toowoomba?

I’m actually very new to Toowoomba. I was born in the UK and we moved to Noosa on the Sunshine Coast. I have worked in Brisbane, Melbourne, America, London and Sydney. Toowoomba found me, through my partner. And I couldn't be happier here.

What is G.O. Personal Training

My business encompasses the whole fitness and recovery process all in one. Not only do I focus on the physical aspect of personal training – with over 10 years experience working around the world – I am also one of a very small handful of qualified Stretch Therapists in Australia. Stretch and recovery is something 1/10 people do correctly. If rushed, skipped or overlooked, like many trainers do, it can be absolutely detrimental to their clients’ training, health and wellbeing. So my business offers all aspects of training and stretch therapy from beginning to end, creating the perfect service for all levels of fitness.

What have you learned about running a business in Toowoomba?

Having moved to Toowoomba I found very quickly that word of mouth was like no other city I have lived in – which can be an amazing thing, but also can be a slippery slope. However, if you treat everyone the same with respect and care then you can’t go wrong. And in saying that I haven’t had to do any advertising and I am so thankful for that and my amazing clients. The facilities in Toowoomba are also like none other – the swimming pools, gyms, parks, Glennie’s school track – I take my clients to all of them and they are all state of the art!

What does an average day look like for you?

4.00AM: start, yes you read correctly. Running my G.O Bootcamp or G.O Run CLUB.
6.30AM: followed by a sneaky coffee at Impressions on Scott
7.00AM: one-on-one clients
11.00AM: try to fit in my own training – swimming, run, pilates, weights, yoga/stretch
12.30PM: I love cooking so a lovely homemade lunch and relax
2.00PM: one-on-one clients
6.30 PM: finish, home cooked meal and straight to bed!

What does your ideal Toowoomba weekend look like?

A little sleep in! Then a walk with friends around Queens Park. I really enjoy going to famers markets so either Cobb & Co or PCYC’s. I have all the time in the world for farmers and their fresh and local produce. Coffee catch ups at Sweet Talk, James Street Grocer or Emeraude. Afternoons in either the garden or somewhere outside taking in my favourite time of day. And then in the kitchen rustling up something for dinner with all my lovely fresh produce.

Only a Toowoomba local would know…

To run in Jubilee Park. I love it there, going deep into the forest, finding new tracks and areas. It’s more commonly known for mountain bikers, but there are some amazing hidden areas and lookouts. It’s a place to escape and reenergise.
