Down the laneway of Walton Stores near the weathered yellow brick mural, you’ll find Bodega, the new eclectic speakeasy bar.

Local foodies will remember Junk – the recently-closed Asian street food venue. Now, its creator is back with a new venture. Todd Farr created Bodega to be Toowoomba’s hottest drinks and live music spot. With local talent on stage four nights a week, and musical bingo every Wednesday, there’s something on for all. It’s the perfect place to kick on after dinner, when you’re not quite ready to go home.

Despite the booze and music, Bodega feels different from a pub – serving no food, it highlights the simple beauty of a good, cold beer. The drinks menu celebrates Central and South American flavours, with a range of Latin-inspired cocktails, spiked slurpies and classics (such as a Tommy’s Margarita). Try the Pickleback – a whisky shot chased with pickle juice – if you dare.

The name gives a nod to the charming corner stores scattered all across New York, aiming to foster that same sense of community. You’ll find Bodega at Walton Stores from 5pm Wednesday to Saturday and from 3pm on Sundays.
