Toowoomba may be famous for its gardens, but the homes are not too shabby either.
Maybe its the disproportionate number of homeowners – or just the fact that we are fabulously stylish – but there’s plenty of local boutiques catering for furniture, homewares and gifts. We’ve rounded up some of our favourites from across the city. We recommend stopping by them all, of course.
Bungalow & Basket
The Bungalow & Basket is a dream gift store. There's everything: jewellery, homewares, clothes, skin care... The store is owned by Jodie and Sally. Jodie curates the beautiful selection of products. Sally, an accountant-turned-baker, is the lady to thank for the ever-changing menu of delicious, housemade treats. The pair dreamed of creating their perfect space in their favourite city, and so emerged a lifestyle store that doubles as a café.
Harold’s finishing touches
A design institution since its inception in 2011, Harold's is owned and curated by Aaron Bourne. The tiny boutique offers an ever-changing range of gifts and small homewares – think vases, cushions, coffee table books, lamps, candles and ornaments. Aaron, charmingly, opens the store at 9.15am each morning to allow himself time to get coffee first.
magnolia home & gift
The range here is slightly breath-taking. There's a cooking section, a children's section, a stationery section... There's candles and cards and clothes and jewellery and art and cushions and furniture. Magnolia is also the exclusive Toowoomba stockist of New Farm Confectionary, which is reason enough to go in itself.
belle fleur
This cosy store feels like an art gallery gift shop in all the best ways. In fact, you’ll find many of the brands you’ll find at the V&A or National Museum of Australia shops – Liberty, William Morris, Wavertree & London. Filled with tea towels, soaps, tableware and gardening goods, it’s all very English with pops of French Provincial.
Range Antiques
Jeremy and Pauline Green are the second-generation of owners of Range Antiques. The local icon is renowned for tge finely curated selection of furniture, jewellery and silverware. Whether you’re looking for a show-stopping dining table, an engagement ring or a curious knick-knack, you’ll find a beautiful selection of high-quality items here without all the clutter.
luxe & humble
Run by a mother-daughter team, Luxe & Humble has Bespoke Press wrapping papers, knick knacks from The Society Inc, and a curated selection of one-of-a-kind vintage pieces. Occasionally open to the public, Teresa Spark runs the studio in Toowoomba and sources pieces of unique furniture that she puts the Luxe & Humble touch on.
HARRY & KIT
A design institution, originally from Goondiwindi, Harry & Kit recently opened in the CBD. Lillie’s stunning store is full to the brim with gifts and homewares. Think everything from beautiful coffee table books to driftwood furniture, candles to small ceramics and large furniture peices. The style here leans towards neutral country chic, with plenty of French influence.
The Store Room
The Store Room is a one-stop-shop for that special something that’s missing from your home. Be inspired by the impressive collection of colourful artwork, furniture, handcrafted jewellery, kitchen accessories, books, and much more. Owners Jill and Inky showcase Australian-made talent in the store, with some Toowoomba makers on the shelf as well, so you can feel good about supporting local. Round out your visit with a coffee and sweet treat in the sunny courtyard. There’s a friendly barista at the ready to serve up specialty Padre Coffee, and delicious cakes and slices from Impressions on Scott. See what we mean by a one-stop-shop?
