Railway Street’s Ortem has dabbled in evening events for the past couple of years, but regulars will be thrilled to know that the café is offering evening dining from this weekend. Guests can now enjoy dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings – with coffee! In the evening! (Toowoomba, you’ve been asking us for this for literally years.)

A sneak peek at the menu shows starters such as a baked brie and steamed bao, while mains range from roasted pumpkin pesto tagliatelle through to crispy buttermilk chicken burgers and slow-cooked beef cheeks with celeriac purée and roasted baby carrots. Desserts include a warm chocolate puddings and an espresso crème brûlée. With a cocktail menu spanning the classics (as well as some inventive additions) and an expanded wine list, the venue is shaping up to be a favourite this Autumn.

Both indoor and al fresco dining is available, with online bookings and walk-ins welcome from this Friday evening. The team is also working on opening their balcony upstairs as a private dining space – anyone who has attended a function there knows it is a magical space in the evenings.

For those attached to their slippers, the full menu is also available for takeaway; MenuLog will be up and running after a few weeks.
