2021 was a huge year for everyone, us included. We revived the Field Guide website after almost a year’s hiatus and launched our quarterly printed newspaper that champions local voices through talented contributors. We saw a handful of new businesses pop up – from speakeasy bar Bodega to pilates studio Fit Former – and shared them with you. We highlighted local events happening in the region to help you plan the perfect weekend, no matter if you were a beers-on-the-deck or ballet at the theatre person. And we loved every second of it!

There’s only more to come in the new year, with more local goodness to share with you, more small businesses opening, and hopefully, some exciting TFG events for us to all meet beyond the screens and celebrate what makes this region so special. So, from TFG Editor Phoebe Tully and I, we thank you for your support this year as we navigated The Field Guide 2.0. We look forward to celebrating a great year, and we hope you do too – so get planning! These events happening New Years Eve night (and well into the morning!) will help you celebrate – or forget – the year that was 2021.

CATCH THE FIREWORKS

Where: Frogs Hollow, corner Margaret and Hume Streets, and City Golf Club, 254 South Street
When: 8.15pm (Queens Park), 9.00pm and midnight (City Golf Club)

Fireworks are basically synonymous with New Years, and this year you can catch them at both Queens Park and the City Golf Club. Grab dinner from a local downtown restaurant, then pop over to the park with a picnic blanket and enjoy the show at 8.15pm. Or, enjoy dinner and drinks at the club before the 9.00pm and midnight fireworks shows.

Ziggy Stardust Party

Where: Bodega, Walton Stores
When: from 5.00pm

Celebrate Bodega’s very first NYE by travelling through the Zeitgeist of the Ziggy Stardust era. 2022 is kicking off with a big ol’ Bodega Bang, thanks to plenty of booze and boogying. Local favs Sticks & Tones will be kicking the night off from 7.00pm and bangin’ party band Trace will be rocking the crowd into the new year. Come dressed in your 'Space Oddity' best for a chance to win one of two $300 vouchers to spend at the venue - think glitter jumpsuits, cropped jackets, bright hot-pants, and mullets galore.

Studio 54 Party

Where: Fitzy’s, 153 Margaret Street
When: from 5.00pm

Travel back to the streets of New York City in the late 1970s at Fitzy's Studio 54 party. Pop a bottle of Champagne and enjoy the smooth sounds of James Ryle. Beat the line-up and start the night early with dinner available in the restaurant. Order your disco ball cocktail and shimmy the night away to DJ Buré, long after the clock strikes 12.

Wind down with a wine

Where: Uva Wine Bar, Walton Stores
When: 6.00-9.00pm

Get cosy at boutique wine bar Uva and listen to the sounds of local muso Victoria Q performing live. Pull up a stool that overlooks the street for some people-watching or settle at a table with your friends and reminisce on the year. Kick on if you want, but we won’t judge if you call it a night at that.

ENJOY A CARNIVAL FIESTA

Where: Tatts, 80 Margaret Street
When: from 6.00pm

Kick off your New Years Eve at the Tatts Pre-Festa, with tickets including a three-hour bottomless package with premium spirits, beer and wine, as well as charcuterie and canapés. There'll be roaming entertainers, beer pong, limbo, and even the chance to take a photo with a live python (we’re not sure why – report back please). Watch the final sunset of 2021 from the balcony with a drink in hand.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood Party

Where: The Met Hotel, 348 Ruthven Street
When: from 7.00pm

The Met wants to take you back in time to 1969 and experience Hollywood’s golden age. Enjoy a four-hour food and beverage package for $99, and be entertained all night by Benny Nelson and DJ Ray. They'll be giving away cash prizes for best-dressed on the night, so come dressed in your best 1969 Hollywood-style threads.

Bring Back The 80s

Where: The Spotted Cow, 296 Ruthven Street
When: from 8.00pm

Goodbye 2021, hello 1981! Go back in time... where the hair was big and the tunes were even bigger. There’ll be 80s tunes blasting all night and prizes for best dressed on offer.

Rock Star Party

Where: Wilsonton Hotel, 40 Richmond Drive
When: from 8.00pm

Come dressed to impress as your favourite rock star, with prizes to be won. Start off with dinner in the pub, then rock on with live music from Dirty Water.

SIP IN STYLE ON THE ROOFTOP

Where: George Banks Bar and Bistro rooftop, 206 Margaret Street
When: from 7.00pm

Celebrate with a 5-hour all-inclusive package that includes signature cocktails all night, tap beers, wine, grazing boards, and a live DJ. You’ll even be able to see the Queens Park fireworks from high above.

Club Toowoomba’s Glow Party

Where: Club Toowoomba, 331 Hume Street
When: from 5.00pm

It’s time to whip out your tightest and brightest outfits, because Club Toowoomba will be hosting a glow party. There’ll be live music, glow themed cocktails, beer towers and a two-course buffet and a dessert grazing table.
