While December for many of us has marked the start of shopping sprees and Christmas lunch planning, it’s also time to spare a thought for others who need a helping hand.
The Loads of Love initiative, calls for locals to donate grocery and household items.
By simply filling and donating a bag with pantry staples from your local supermarket, you’ll be contributing to food security for families in our region. And with three in 10 food-insecure Australians going at least one day without eating each week, it’s now more important than ever to help combat poverty.
Non-perishable items to pop in your donation bag include canned veggies, soup and tuna, dry pasta and noodles, cereal, muesli bars, sweet biscuits, and long-life milk – just make sure it’s something you’d be happy to eat too! You can also donate household items such as toiletries and feminine hygiene products.
There’s over 45 collection points across Toowoomba, including Grand Central Shopping Centre, the City Golf Club, and Harvey Norman, meaning it’s super easy to drop off your bag (or two!) during your weekday errand run.
Not able to drop off a bag? You can also make one-off or regular monetary donations to the cause online, or volunteer your time to lend a hand to Lifeline and make sure donations get to the hands of those who need them.
Over 140,000 kgs of food have been donated since the program started, helping tens of thousands of people, changing the lives of local families and making the holiday season a little merrier.
The campaign officially launches November 21 with the Annual Launch Breakfast (tickets here) and is accepting filled bags up until Friday, 22 December.
