The winners of the Contemporary Wearables ’21 Biennial Jewellery Awards have been announced, and it was a breathtaking 42-piece collection of sculptured brooches that came out on top.

Florilegium ...traversing the poetry of plant’ was crafted by former local Sarah Rayner in collaboration with Sophie Carnell. The collection features intricate pieces finished with porcelain and silver. Sarah’s works are inspired by her admiration of the natural environment, particularly Australian native plants and their unique fruits and seeds.

The fascinating collection (pictured above) was awarded the $6,000 first prize, while Kyoko Hashimoto’s necklace made from coal claimed runner-up, and Kierra-Jay Power scored the student category with an elegantly designed ring.

Art lovers can view the winning pieces plus many more in the Contemporary Wearables ’21 exhibition until 31 October. The Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery is free to stroll through and is open Tuesdays to Sundays.
