It's no secret, but Toowoomba is home to an incredible variety of musicians and a serious depth of musical talent (it's a conversation that we have on a near-weekly basis as we excitedly spruik upcoming events to anyone and everyone who'll listen - sorry to all our friends and family!).

This week, we shine the spotlight on Toowoomba-based singer and songwriter TALLOU, who released her much-anticipated debut single, "I Promise I Love You", co-written and recorded with fellow Toowoomba talent Jude York (you may remember him as a one of the artists shortlisted for Australia's 2022 Eurovision entry).

By no means new to the scene, the talented self-taught artist has actually been making moves in the music industry since a young age, having signed her first original song to Sony ATV at just 14 years old. Winning the Queensland Music Award for Country Song of the Year in 2020, and performing at festivals such as the Woodford Folk Festival, Caloundra Music Festival, Tamworth Country Music Festival, the Gympie Muster, the young artist has also opened for acts including Sheppard, Busby Marou, and Taylor Henderson.

Speaking about her inspiration and the move away from country music, TALLOU explained, "I was inspired by powerful songwriters like Olivia Rodrigo & Holly Humberstone, but after years performing music as part of the duo Oh Harlow, it was the lockdowns that really enforced solitude and ultimately a re-evaluation with my music and shift in direction".

TALLOU has poured her experiences and emotions into her new indie-pop sound, and her passion for creating meaningful music is evident in this debut single. We know what we'll be listening to on repeat for the next few weeks.
